With a lot of spare time on our hands, especially in the midst of this pandemic, many of us want to use this opportunity to tell our story. And as my title suggests, I will talk about how to name a blog about your life.
When executed properly, this can open up a lot of different avenues for you if you’re able to get your message across to your audience in a positive way. But the very first thing that will make your blog stand out will be a good domain name.
We’ll suggest various ideas that will help you solve this dilemma so that you can get started with your life blog.
IDEA # 1 – Using Your Full Name As Your Blog Name
This is an easy one and helps you with some personal branding as well. Using your full name as your blog name is a well-known practice. A lot of guys don’t get it, though; why exactly should you use your full name?
The answer is simple, BRANDING. In today’s age, personal branding is extremely important if you want to provide your services and make money online. No one buys from people they don’t trust, and personal branding will help you bridge that gap.
That bridging the gap can happen when your full name is your domain name. You can then tell your story on the web, let people know about the services you provide, and it also gives you the flexibility to venture into new topics as well. In short, you’ll never be restricted if your full name is your blog name.
Google loves websites that have authority, and the best way to provide them with that is to show who you are. Not only does it help from an SEO point of view, but it also helps people to choose which result they want to click on Google.
Not only this, but using your full name is also an excellent way to increase your outreach on social media! If you’ve tried, you probably know how tough it is to have a significant following on social media without any sort of promotion.
Trust me, there is no better way to promote yourself on social media than a personal blog. A successful blog will attract viewers to your social media accounts. You can then leverage your social following to gain their trust and solve their problems.
There have been numerous examples of blog owners using their online web traffic in a perfect way to build social media following. Your dream of becoming an Instagram influencer or the next big YouTuber can be given a head start if you use your name as a blog.
So don’t shy away from showing your personality on the web. Who knows, you may turn out to be the next big star!

IDEA # 2 – Mixing Up the Blog Name With Your Name
This is a variation of the above-mentioned technique. What you need to do here is to have a part name and part adjective to make up your domain.
Now you can use your full name with the adjective as well, but that will make the domain name a bit long. Longer domain names should be avoided, as the shorter your name is, the better you can market it.
Shorter domain names are brandable and easy to remember. Always remember that your main aim is to make your domain brandable, and having a short domain name is the first step towards it.
Now adjectives can be many, but the trick is to choose the one that blends well with your name. You need to have only one name so you can decide whether that will be your first name or last name.
Nevertheless, the idea is to make sure that both the adjective and the name fit perfectly well. A well-placed adjective can significantly increase your click-through rate on the web.
The trick is to use the adjective in a way that makes you stand out from the crowd. Since many bloggers are using it already, make sure yours looks different and captivating to the users.
Overdo it, and you’ll be doomed for failure, don’t try to be too perfect in your quest.
Identify your strengths; what is it that you want to talk about? What are you good at? What sort of message do you want to put out in front of your readers?
Ask yourself these questions before blindly pursuing that perfect adjective that blends well with your name. You may very well be on the way to be the best blogger if your name exudes the magic.

IDEA # 3 – Choosing A Strictly Brandable Name
This is a straight no brainer. Almost everyone is already doing this, so you’ll have to put in the extra effort to stand out.
These names can be branded everywhere, they look great on the coffee mug, and you can spawn merchandise out of it. The problem, though, is finding out the perfect brandable name can be a tedious task.
These names generally don’t have any names (first & last name) associated with them, so you’ll have to come up with something on your own. Another problem is availability; most of the good domain names you can come up with are already registered.
Sometimes it will be frustrating to see that some of the names are registered and parked. Their owner’s sole purpose is to attract users like you to buy them at a premium price. If the domain name is seriously good and your budget allows, there’s no harm in going after it. But generally, it is best to come up with something of your own and buy it cheaper.
To help yourself in making this process easier, try searching for some random words in the dictionary and mix it up. This is an age-old practice that still works, and good domain names are born out of it.
If this doesn’t work for you, try searching for a good domain within your niche that is successful and take inspiration from them. Remember, I told inspiration and not imitation!
Don’t try to imitate and tweak a few words from them; rather, take a good idea of how creative they’ve been. Try to be creative in that sense, and you’ll meet that pure brandable domain name soon enough.
Even though it’s a bit tough to get, once you have a good pure brandable domain name in your hands, you can push your case to be the best blogger.

IDEA # 4 – Throwing Your Profession/Skill In The Mix
Another good technique that can work wonders if you’re trying to push your case to be an expert in your field. Mixing your skills or profession within the domain name is used only by a select few bloggers.
The purpose here is to help users on the web on a particular topic. These bloggers are professionals in their fields like medicine, sport, maybe financial advisor, etc. Their content revolves around their topic of expertise.
And to brand their name better, they use their profession in the domain name for good CTR. Imagine you are a financial advisor and are blogging on topics related to finance. Now when you publish a blog post, and it comes on the search result, users are more likely to click on your blog if the domain name suggests you’re in the finance field.
To elaborate on our above-mentioned paragraph – A user googles the search phrase “How to avoid tax on salary,” A fleet of different domain names will come up for this search phrase. And unless you’re not competing with big sites like CNBC, chances are users are more likely to click on your domain if it is johnsmithcpa.com
The domain itself is normal and nothing extraordinary, but it gives away the profession Mr. John Smith is associated with. Users want to hear from an expert, and this is the correct way to tell them exactly that!
On top of that, these domain names are super easy to get because they are unique. How many people in this world would share your name and your profession & are actively planning to create a blog? Slim to none.
So if you plan to leverage your skills and market your profession effectively to the world or even at the local level, this is the way to go.

IDEA # 5 – Brand Name + Adjective = A Winner!
This is the final method if all of the above doesn’t work for you. It can be quite complex as well as it is seldom used on the web. This will require you to do two things –
- Find a short brand name (less than 8 characters)
- Find a suitable adjective ( less than 8 characters)
Step 1 will be to find a good brand name that is short and can be fused with a strong adjective. Secondly, you’ll need a suitable adjective that goes well with the brand name.
The challenge here will be to make sure that the domain name doesn’t become too long, as it will affect all your URLs as well and create problems from an SEO point of view.
Though a bit complex this whole ordeal is doable. We know you need an example so we’ll throw this in front of you –
Example – www.awesomehunk.com
See how subtly the brand name “Hunk” goes with the adjective “awesome”. You can do something similar for your blog especially if you want the brand name to be the focus.
And it is totally fine to have your brand name as your blog name if you’re planning to blog on your life. Unless monetization is something you really don’t care about, I can’t find a reason why you shouldn’t promote your brand whenever you get the opportunity.
And running a life blog doesn’t necessarily need to have your name as the domain. There are a lot of successful life blogs that are built around a brand name.
So an adjective with the brand name is another viable option to look after. But in case you’re unable to nail down that perfect name, skip this and try other methods.
Final Thoughts
Another important thing to keep in mind is to make a really good about me page in case of a life blog. Not only does it add authority to your site, but it is one of the most visited pages on a live blog.
Another important factor when naming a life blog is to grab the domain if it’s available. Leaving this task for later can hurt your chances of owning your favorite domain. The moment you zero in on your preferred domain, the very first thing to do is to buy it. Our recommendation is Namecheap.
You can additionally check our review on Namecheap here.
It doesn’t matter if you will build the site; later on, at least you have your name secured.
I’ll sign off by saying that you try all the above-mentioned methods. The idea behind all these is to give you a baseline to work on.
As an exercise, I’ll suggest you jot down several domain names using all the above methods. A good practice will be to have at least 2 domain names for each method listed.
You’ll have around 10 domain names to choose from; remember to check for availability first. Only add available domains to your shortlist; once that is done, select the name that resonates well with the audience.
Take the help of your family & friends if you want. It never hurts to have a third party review on anything that is subjective.
